Like markets, festivals bring people together, and are a great way to get to the heart of a country. Here are a few coming up which we think you should go to at least once in your life time November: Loi Krathong, Festival of Lights, Thailand: An enchanting festival that takes place during the full moon. Marking the end of the rainy season, the skies become illuminated by a procession of hand-made glowing lanterns floating dreamily through the night skies. Rivers and lakes are set aflame with tiny candles and miniature boats that weave their way down in homage to the Goddess of Water. The festival is all about letting your troubles slip away, so you can be released from your 'Durkkha.' We really recommend seeing this.   December: Hmong New Year- Laos, Vietnam and Thailand. This New Year celebration is unique to the Hmong people, one of the largest ethnic groups living in Northern Laos, Vietnam and Thailand. The festival takes place a couple of time s year and is dependent on when the rice is harvested that particular year. The Hmong people know how to party, each one has to last at least three days! It is bad luck for events to last an even number of days, so they party hard for 3,5, or even 7! The festivities are marked by traditional performances of dance, food and games and provide a decent opportunity for the Hmong from different villages to meet up. They are one of the only times that the Hmong leave the fields. Love is definitely in the air at these events!   Meet the team: Say hello to Frances, one of our Sri Lanka and Maldives specialists.
